How RentalDesk works in a Network Environment

There are two basic components to the RentalDesk system – 1) The Server and 2) The Workstation. If you purchased a single user version of RentalDesk, both of these components are often installed on the same machine. However, if you purchased the multi-user version of RentalDesk, the server application will be installed on only one machine, and the workstation application will be installed on each machine in which you wish to run RentalDesk.

You will not be able to run RentalDesk from one of the workstations unless the computer that has been designated as the server is running, and is connected to your network with a valid TCP/IP address. Please note that the computer that runs the server application will not operate and is not compatible with Windows 9x, or ME. It is a good idea to utilize a computer that is not heavily used as the designated server machine. In other words, don't install the server application on a computer that is heavily used for accounting or web page service, unless the machine has a generous portion of Random Access Memory (RAM), and a fast processor chip. It is best that the computer not be used but function solely as a "server"
